U.B.D.C POWER HOUSES, STAGE-I & II (91.35 MW)
UBDC Hydel Project, one of the esteemed Run off river plants of Punjab, is consistently catering to Power needs of Punjab with its total installed capacity of 91.35 MW. This Hydel Electric Project has two stages with three Power Houses i.e. PH No. 1, 2 & 3 Stage-I & Stage II, constructed on UBDC Hydel Channel at Pathankot. The installed capacity of PH-1, 2 & 3 Stage-I is 3X15=45 MW and PH-1, 2 & 3 Stage-II is 3X15.45=46.35. Generation at all the Power Houses is done at 11KV and is stepped up to 132KV. All the Power Houses are interlinked through Double Circuit 132 KV lines. The Generated Power at this project is evacuated from UBDC PH-1 to UBDC PH2 and further to 132 KV Interlink Grid Substation at Sarna. 132 KV Inter link Grid S/Stn Sarna also takes in the power from UBDC PH-3 and further connected with 220 S/Stn sarna through 2 Nos 220/132 KV 100 MVA auto transformer and connected to 132 KV grid through 132 KV lines described as under:
- From Power House-3, Sarna to Pathankot through 132 KV double circuit.
- From Power House-3, Sarna to Gurdaspur through 132 KV double circuit.
- From 132 KV Bus to 11 KV Bus through 132/11 KV 20 MVA T-3 Transformer and for further supply Power to Power houses and local distribution 11 KV system.
The locations of Power Houses on the channel are as under: –

Further P.S.E.B (now PSPCL) had to incur an expenditure of 18.28 crore through Pb. Irrigation department for re-modelling of escape channel at RD- 72720 to enhance its capacity from 1500 Cusses to 7200 Cusses. This work was completed in 7/2004 due to which full generation from UBDC PHs became possible during lean period when Irrigation Indent is NIL.
