PSPCL reiterates resolve to stem power theft & corruption in ranks- suspends two officials

PSPCL is not only curbing power theft but is also identifying unscrupulous elements among its staff who despite having been forewarned through written communication, have not stopped indulging in misdemeanours.

After learning about viral video of field staff of Sub-division Tohra (under Amloh Division, district Fatehgarh Sahib) wherein Lineman Avtar Singh was seen taking money from the consumer in lieu of excess load detected during checking, the matter was investigated by PSPCL Enforcement team. After investigation, it has been found that Sh. Avtar Singh (Lineman) took Rs. 10,000/- in lieu of excess load from the complainant. On receiving inquiry report, PSPCL has placed him under suspension vide office order no. 490 dated 30.08.2019 and his headquarters has been fixed at the office of SE/DS Circle, Nawanshahr.

In another case, on receiving inquiry report about JE Surta Singh posted at Subdivision Chugawan (Amritsar) found to be indulging in power theft by-passing his own energy meter, PSPCL has placed him under suspension vide office order no. 624 dated 02.09.2019 and his headquarters has been fixed at the office of CE/DS Zone (Border), Amritsar. He was having electricity account number 3001471765 with load of 6 kilowatt was checked on 06.08.2019 and was found indulging in theft. He has been charged with the penalty amount of Rs. 56,713/- and compounding fee of Rs. 18,000/-.

Er. Baldev Singh Sran, CMD PSPCL said that PSPCL is taking strict action against its officials for their role in mistreating esteemed consumers and that corruption in any shape and form will not be tolerated whether it is committed by consumer or PSPCL employees. He informed that an awareness campaign has been launched through radio jingles, social media and press releases to call upon public at large to come forward to help curb the menace of power theft and corruption. Advertisements have been issued by PSPCL to circulate special numbers so that consumers / informers can inform about power theft or about corruption by PSPCL staff.
