PSPCL has launched a massive drive to check the menace of theft of Electricity in Punjab: Er.Baldev Singh Sran

Patiala June 26,2019 Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has launched a massive drive to check the menace of theft of Electricity in the state and PSPCL has achieved great success in this campaign. This was disclosed by CMD,PSPCL Er.Baldev Singh Sran in a press note here today. To continue this massive drive, PSPCL 14 no flying squads of enforcement wing raided in Lehragaga and Patran Divisions. During these raids total 190 no electricity connections were checked in different villages. Where total 30 no electricity theft cases were caught and fined Rs 6.5 lakh. During the campaign, a number of dedicated consumers extended their full support to stop the power theft.

CMD further said that on 21/06/2019, a joint raid by 13 squads of Amritsar, Jalandhar and Bathinda Enforcement Circles was conducted in Patti /Bhikhiwind area of Border zone. 283 Nos connections of DS, NRS and SP categories were checked and 72 Nos. cases of Theft/UUE etc. were detected. The total amount assessed in lieu of theft/UUE was about Rs.16.61 lacs. The squad of ASE/Enf. Ferozepur was obstructed from checking at Village Manihala under Patti City S/Divn who tactfully came out of the situation and was instructed to continue checking in Patti City. At Village Kaalia under Amarkot S/Divn squad of ASE/Enf.-2, Amritsar was gheraoed by villagers and was not allowed to do the checking. A member of the local staff accompanying the enforcement squad was also manhandled by the villagers. The release of enforcement staff was made possible with the efforts of ASE/Bhikhiwind at about 3pm.

Village panchayat was explained that they are making PSPCL network of lines overloaded and which makes lines regularly faulty and also damaging transformers due to theft of electricity and without their help PSPCL cannot improve the electricity distribution system. They agreed on the issue. They declared in panchayat on 22 June that no theft of electricity city should be done by anybody. Panchayat of villages Kaalia and Skatra in Amarkot s/Div Amritsar moved around in village on 23.06.2019 and caught about 200 heaters and broke these heaters publically and warned all to shun theft of electricity.
